Sherif Guorgui elected OCP President 16px; text-align: left; "September 12, 2011 -- At the September meeting of the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP), Sherif Guorgui, R.Ph., was elected President for the 2011-2012 term.

"On behalf of the OCP council, I am pleased to extend congratulations to Sherif," said Past President Bonnie Hauser. "Sherif is an innovative and experienced Council member with the necessary leadership skills to guide the College over the next year."

Sherif is a graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Cairo and alumni of the International Pharmacy Graduate program at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto. He has extensive experience in pharmacy practice: as a pharmacy manager and owner in both independent and franchise settings, as well as in various corporate roles in retail pharmacy operations. He is currently the Director of Specialty Pharmacy Operations in Ontario, at Katz Group Canada Ltd. / Rexall Pharma Plus.

As a council member, Sherif has played an important role, serving on the College's Executive Committee and as Chair of the Discipline Committee. He has also served on the College's Inquiries, Complaints & Reports, Quality Assurance, Professional Practice, Finance, Communications and Compensation Committees. Sherif was also a member of the College's Registrar Search Committee this year.

Sherif is an active member in the pharmacy education community, serving on the Pharmacy Program Advisory Committee at the Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. He has also served his community by participating in the Potential to Prosperity project, funded by the Canadian Foundation of Economic Education and designed to assistInternationally Educated Professionals seeking to get licensed in Canada.

Sherif's experience in both the professional and regulatory sectors has enabled him to have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the unique needs, challenges and opportunities of Pharmacy practice in Ontario.

"We are looking forward to working with Sherif during this exciting time for pharmacy in Ontario," said OCP Registrar Marshall Moleschi. "Under Sherif's leadership, OCP is in an ideal position to continue to fulfill its regulatory mandate and strategic vision."
