عشان نقول لا للغربة يبقى لازم نعرف إيه هى الغربة فى الأول

أنا شايفة إن الغربة هى إن الواحد يقعد فى مكان ما يعرفش فيه حد

ما بيحبش حد ..ما فيش حد فى الدنيا يفرق معاه

أى حاجة تحصل يبقى تمام و مشى حالك و مقضيها!!!

و بالتعريف دة يبقى الواحد ممكن يبقى قاعد وسط عيلته و أهله وناسه وجوة بلده وحاسس بالغربة ودة إحساس فظيع جدا و مؤلم جربته قبل كدة و ما أستحملتوش

الأصعب منه إنى ألاقى كل الناس على بدايات الصيف متلهفة جدا لنزول مصر و مشغولة جدا فى تحضيرات السفر وأنا مش حاسة بأى حاجة...

ولا حتى عندى إحساس إنى عايزة أروح مصر لإى الصيف

ولا فيه أى حد أو أى حاجة واحشانى فى البلد بإختصار كدة حاسة بعدم الأنتماء و اليتم رغم إن أهلى لسة على وجه الخليقة!!

لكن حاسة إنى مقطوعة من شجرة وشايفة عيلتى الصغيرة اللى هما زوجى و بناتى هما كل الحياة هما العيلة و الأقارب على الأقل الحب و المشاعر اللى بنا ما يحكمهاش قانون المصلحة و الفايدة ونظام هتفيدنى بأيه وهاخد منك إيه؟

لما بفتكر مصر باحس بمرارة غريبة و غصة فى الحلق

يمكن بسبب آخر أجازة نزلتها..... بعد يومين كنت بافكر أحجز تذكرة و أرجع حالا ما كنتش مستحملة لا البلد ولا الأهل ولا أى حاجة

عشان كدة ما بحسش بالغربة فى الخليج خااااالص

الغربة في الخارج صعبة و العيشة في مصر صعبة نحن بني ادم نريد الجنة علي الارض ,وانا هنا في الغربة بشتاق الي مصر جدا والله لدرجة بتلهف الي اي خبر عن مصر سواء جيداو سيء لاقدر الله,بحب المصريين واعشق تجمعتنا علي قد مافيها من مشاكل وبلاوي,ولكن حب بلدك واهلك لا يمكن ان تنزعه منقلبك وروحك حتي لو مصر بقت جهنم الحمرا, ليس شعارات ولاهتافات ولكن والله مصر ديه غير اي بلد تانية في العالم ,هنا علي طول سيرة مصر في كل شيء ,في المتاحف والتلفزيون والسياحة,حتي في المدراس عندهم كتاب عن مصر بس والله شيء يجعلك فخور هما نفسهم هنا بيقولوا مصر ام الدنيا اقدم حضارة في التاريخ واعجبها,وبزعل لما نشوف مصر في النازل كده وبيد اولادها ,لو يعرفوا قيمة مصر الحقيقة حيخدوا بالهم من بلدنا زي اولادهم وعينهم ,مصر لو حصلة فيها ثورة نهضة من الجميع حكومة وشعب والله سوف تكون احلي احلي بلاد العالم وملعون ابو الغربة مليون مره وكلنا المغتربين سوف نعود بعلمنا واموالنا و خبرتنا لبناء الحضارة المصرية من جديد بيد اكثر من 90 مليون فرعوني والله المستعان.

الموضوع ده فرصة هايلة عشان الواحد يعمل كشف حساب ويشوف كسب ايه من الغربة وخسر ايه ....وبالتالي لما يأخد قرار بالاستمرار او العودة يكون عارف هو مشي الخطوة علي أي اساس

الغربة اعطتني الآتي

1- مستوي مادي ممتاز خفف عني ضغوط الحياة المادية في مصر وحقق لي فرصة لحياة بلا ضغوط مادية ..تلك الضغوط التي أرى تأثيرها علي وجوه الناس في مصر خصوصا في السنوات الأخيرة

2- فرصة رائعة للتميز مهنيا ....واحتكاك مستمر بأحدث ما وصل اليه العالم المتقدم في تخصصي وللأسف مصر لا يصلها ذلك الا متأخرا جدا في معظم المجالات

3- التعامل علي اساس من القيم التي اصبحنا نسمع عنها ولا نراها في بلادنا من قيم العدالة والمنافسة والمساواة واحترام الخصوصية وقيم التميز المهنية وغيرها .

4- الاحتكاك بحنسيات من كل انحاء العالم بكل ما تحمله من قيم وثقافات وأفكار وتقاليد وهو في نظري متعة وخبرة وفرصة لا تتاح في بلادنا

5- اتقان اللغة الانجليزية وهي اللغة التي يصدر بها معظم الانتاج العلمي في العالم اليوم بما أننا في العالم العربي لسه نايمين ولا يصدر لنا كتاب علمي له قيمة منذ سنوات طويلة .

6- وقت اطول للاستمتاع بالحياة من خلال نشاطات مختلفة من اول ركوب الدراجة في الحارة المخصصة لها في الطريق دون تعليق سخيف أو معاكسة سمجة .... الي ختمات القرآن وجلسات العلم التي لا تجد لها وقتا في يوم عملك في مصر خاصة اذا كنت تعمل صبح وبعد ظهر كما كان حالي

7- سفرالي بلدان مختلفة وسياحة مجانية أو بأقل تكلفة ودخول وخروج بدون مشاكل ولا تعقيدات

أخذت مني

1- ضعف فرص اختيار شريك الحياة خاصة وان الاجازة الشهر ونص غير كافية للبحث عن الشخص المناسب ..والنتيجة ...خطوبة في الصيف وفسخها في الشتا ومعاناه شاب في بداية الثلاثينات يعيش وحيدا غريبا محاطا بكل انواع الفتن ....وما يترتب علية من اختبارات عسيرة وتقلب في الحالة المزاجية والنفسية وانخفاض النشاط الذهني و....و.....

2- غياب فرص بر الوالدين في مرحلة من عمرهما يكونان أكثر احتياجا لهذا الاهتمام من اي وقت مضي ....وما ينتج عنه من شعور بالذنب والتقصير خصوصا اذا فقدت احدهما أو كليهما وانت غائب

3- فقدان الشعور بمعني الأهل وضعف صلة الارحام بصفة عامة والاحساس الدائم بالوحده وغياب المسانده والدعم الذي يسندك في اوقات المحن والأزمات التي لا تخلو منها حياة

4- الوقوع تحت ضغط التفكير في المستقبل ...وهو ضغط من نوع مختلف حول قرار العودة ...من عدمه ..وأسئلة أخري حول توقيتها وظروفها والقدره علي التكيف مع الحياة في مصر التي اختلفت كثرا وجدا عنها يوم تركتها والاختلاف للأسف الشديد للأسوأ

5-الشعور المزدوج بالغربة وعدم الاستقرار فأنت ضيف هنا وضيف هناك .....ضيف هنا لأنك سترحل يوما الي بلدك وضيف في بلدك لأنك تقضي فيه اياما معدوده تعيشها كانك سائح جاء للاستمتاع والراحة التي غالبا ما لا تجدها استعدادا لمواصلة عام جديد في رحلة الغربة

6- الحرمان من احباء واعزاء ....رفقاء الصبا واصحاب التلمذة الذين ربما سافر كثير منهم الي بلاد مختلفة واصدقاء العمر الذين بمرور السنين بعدوا عن العين والقلب

انا اضع هاتين القائمتين امام عيني الآن .......وأعرف لماذا مازلت خارج مصر حتي الآن

ــ بعدتنا عن اهلنا وخليتنا لوحدنا في بلد غريبه ومع ظروف الحياة

بقي من النادر انك تلاقي حد بيحبك بجد وخايف عليك

ولا طايق الزحمة ولا الروتين وعلشان تمشي حالك فيها وتعيش لازم تدفع

ومش هتقدر تكمل فيها وتدور علي سفر تاني

بأختصار الغربه بتاخد مننا اكتر مابتدينا ومفيش حد بيتغرب بمزاجه ولو بايدينا كنا قولنا

فوائد الغربة بس انا في راي انها مش غربة :

1 - مرتب يعيشك سعيد طول الوقت مهما كانت شغلتك

2 - حياة كريمة و احترام لادمية الانسان مش زي البوليس في مصر اللي بيتكلموا بايديهم بس ههههههههههههه

3 - تعليم محترم بدام بره مصر يبقي تعليم محترم

4 - منزل محترم حتي لو اجار

5 - وجود وقت فراغ مش زي مصر يدوبك الواحد بيروح ينام

6 - و بصراحة ده عن تجربة الواحد في مصر بصراحة بيقي مكسل يروح يصلي في المسجد لكن بره مصر و بصراحة ده حصلي الواحد بيروح يصلي في المسجد لان عنده وقت فراغ يستريح فيه

7 - بعد اخذ جنسية البلد اللي انت متغرب فيها بعد كده ليه بنسميها غربة لان خلاص البلد بقت بلدك لكن برده ما تنساش ان في بلد اسمه مصر و انت واخد جنسيتها ابقي روح طل عليها هههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههه

8 - علاج محترم و بصراحة ما اقدرش اقول غير حسبي الله و نعم الوكيل في مستشفيات مصر لان اللي معاه فلوس يتعالج اللي ما معاهوش يموت و انا بصراحة فقدت واحد عزيز عليا بسبب الزفت اللي اسمه مستشفيات مصر

9 - اكتسب عادات جديدة و معرفة اشياء جديدة . بجد انا اتعلمت حاجات و شوفت حاجات من الغربة لو قعدت في مصر طول عمري من الممكن اني ما اعرفهاش

10 - الطعام الصحي و الجيد . مش اكل مصر اللي كله ملوث . الجبنة فيها بودرة سيراميك و اللبن يزودوه مياه و مياه النيل اوسخ ما يمكن و الخضار و الفواكه عليها بودرة و من اسرائيل

11 - امتلاك شئ مستحيل انك تملكه في مصر الا بعد فترة كبيرة و هو السيارة

12 - التعرف علي ناس جديدة و اكتساب خبرات جديدة

13 - الترفيه و الحياة الكريمة

14 - العيش في سلام . مش زي مصر كل يوم مشاكل في مشاكل ده غير الاخبار السيئات و الحزينة اللي بتتكب في صحف مصر اليومية . الواحد يصحه في مصر و يقرا الجريدة و يلقي فلان قتل فلان و فلان سرق فلان و فلان حرق فلان و سعر مش عارف ايه ارتفع و مش عارف ايه احتمال يقل في الفترة القادمة و شوية كورة و شوية بيزنس و شوية اخبار عن الدولة اللي هي صاحبة مبارك و اللي هي اسرائيل و مش عارف مباحثات ايه مع ايه . اما في الغربة تصحه تفطر احسن فطر و تشوف جريدة تشرح القلب و مش مليان اخبار تغم النفس

15 - الحكومة المحترمة و ده طبعا شئ عمره ما هتواجد في مصر

16 - اكتساب جنسية و باسبور اي جنسية محترمة في مصر ههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههه

17 - اكتساب خبرة اجنبية

18 - تعلم اساليب محترمة في الشغل و العمل في اشغال نظيفة . اقصد مثلا لو مدرس و اشتغال في مصر هيشتغل في مدارس تغم النفس و هيشرح منهج هو نفسه لا يفقه شئ عنه لكن في اي بلد اخر هيلقي مدارس محترمة و ناس محترمة و مرتب محترم و منهج مبسط

19 - الابداع خارج الحدود المصرية و فعلا ده اللي بيحصل لاي مصري في الخارج . مثال الدكتور احمد زويل اهوه كان في مصر لكن لما فكر يبدع هرب علي امريكا ابن المحظوظة

20 - اخيرا حياة دينية كويسة في الخارج يعني واحد عنده وقت فارغ يبقي مش معقول مش هيذكر ربنا و لو حتي قليل من الوقت اما في مصر هههههههههههههههههههه الواحد يدوبك بيصلي بالعافية و كمان مش في الشغل الا من رحم ربي

اما الحياة في مصر :

1 - الاحساس بالغربة في مصر و كانك سائح بس في البلد اللي انت متغرب فيه بتحس انه بقا موطنك

2 - الدراسة السهلة بره مصر هههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههه اما في مصر الدراسة صعبة للي بيفكر يخترع الذرة يدرس في مصر و في الاخر يا هيتجن يا هيخترع الفول

3 - اللي بيفكر يموت ولا ينتحر يعيش في مصر علشان العلاج هناك بالمجان بس انتظر فترة قصيرة جدا عبال ما تتعالج ما بين 1 سنة الي 10 سنين ده طبعا الروتين لان الحكومة بتحب النظام اما لو كان ده لضابط شرطة يعني الحكومة يعني النظام ده ما يمشيش عليهم

4 - ما معاكش فلوس في مصر معناها انك متغرب و هتداس من الكل و علي رائ المثل اللي معاه قرش يسوي قرش

5 - الحكومة ثم الحكومة ثم الحكومة يعني لازم تمشي جنب الحيط و اوعي تربي ذقنك احسن تروح في الرجلين و يخدوك امن دولة و لا يقولوا عليك ارهابي ولا تنظيم القاعدة ولا يلبسوك اي تهمة

6 - الحياة في مصر كانك خارج نطاق التغطية اقصد كانك خارج العالم و اللي بيبقي في العالم كله بعد سنة يبقي في مصر بعد 10 سنين

7 - السكن اوحش بيوت ممكن تتخيلها و كمان ايجار و الله عندي خالي عنده 45 سنة اقسم لكم بالله انه لحد دلوقتي عايش في شقة ايجار كل ده علشان فكر يبقي في مصر

8 - التعليم اي شهادة معاك من مصر تبلها و تشرب ميتها و معظم الجامعات في مصر شهادتها من غير قيمة

9 - نيجي بقا للمفيد الشغل او العمل ههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههه في مصر اوحش عمل ممكن تتخيله و اقل مرتب ممكن تتخيله يدزبك بالمرتب لو انت عازب تعيش الشهر عيش و فلافل اما لو متجوز يبقي هبقي عليك ديين لطوب الارض و ربنا معاك

10 - الترفيه هههههههههههههههههههه هو فيه حاجة في مصر اسمها ترفيه ده يمكن بنسمعها في الافلام ههههههههههههههه

11 - الطعام و الاكل هههههههههههههههه عاوز يجيلك اي مرض لا قدر الله يبقي عيش في مصر

12 - الاحترام و الادمية هههههههههههههههههه دي حاجة مش موجوده في مصر . ده احنا حتي ما بنحترمش الحيوانات للي ربنا وصنا بالرفق بيها اما في اي حتة تانية خارج حدود مصر ده ممكن الواحد يسجن لو ضرب حيوان مجرد ضربة اما في مصر هههههههههههه دول بيقتلوا الحيوان و يشربوا دمه يا عم الحج

14 - الجو في مصر انقي ما يمكن هههههههههههههههههههههه لو تحب تشم و تعيش في الدخان و الغبار و الجو المأكسد و المسرطن و تجارب اسرائيل يبقي روح عيش هناك . ده انا و الله قرات علي سلاح بيولوجي اسرائيل عملته و جربه في مصر سلاح بيمسح كل اللي علي الارض

15 - عاوز تبقي معاك بسبور تلفه سجائر يبقي البسبور المصري هو السوبر هههههههههههههههههههههه

16 - لو بتحب المغشوش و المضروب يبقي عليك بمصر هههههههههههههههههههههه

17 - لو بتحب تمتلك اقل و اوحش عملة في العالم يبقي عليك بالجنيه المصري لا بس بصراحة عليها شوية صور حلوة تنفع تذكار هههههههههههههههههههههههههه

18 - بتكره حاجة اسمها التكنولوجيا يبقي عليك بمصر

19 - نفسك تموت بسرعة يبقي عليك بالعمل و العيش في مصر

20 - بتحب السياسة ههههههههههه بصراحة الكلمة دي ما سمعتهاش بره مصر كتير يبقي عليك بمصر لو بتحب السياسة لكن انصحك بنفكر تعمل جريمة يبقي احسن لك بره مصر علشان السجون بره مصر فخمة ههههههههههههههههههههههههه

و في الختام اللي بيفكر يعيش في مصر يبقي بينتحر لانه في كلتا الحالتين متغرب يبقي بره مصر احسن

بس المشكلة فى تأثير المجمع على الجيل الثانى من اولادنا

الكلام ده كله فى فيلم Towelhead اللى مثلته سمر بيشيل اللى من اب سعودى و عاشت فى السعودية و البحرين و شوف المناظر اللى فى الفيلم و اللى مثلتها البنت ده و كمان الفيلم واقعى ان الاولاد بيندمجوا فى المجتمع الغربى و بيرفضوا انعزالية الاهل عن التفاعل فى المجتمع

Summer Bishil (born July 17, 1988) is a Spirit Award nominated American television and movie actress. Bishil first came to prominence for her role as Jasira in the film Towelhead.

In 2006, Bishil was chosen to play the lead in Alan Ball's film, Towelhead, an adaptation of the novel of the same name. She completed filming Wayne Kramer's project, Crossing Over, starring Harrison Ford, Sean Penn, Ray Liotta and Ashley Judd.

In 2007, Bishil was chosen by Variety as one of the 10 Actors to watch.[1] At the 2008 Young Hollywood Awards, Bishil was chosen as "One to Watch"[2] She also appeared in Vanity Fair in their young Hollywood portfolio.[3] Bishil was nominated for a Spirit Award in the best actress category for her role in Towelhead.[4]

Bishil was born in Pasadena, California to an American mother and a father who is a Saudi citizen of Indian descent.[5] She is the youngest in a family of three children (two daughters, one son). She lived in Pasadena until she was three when her family moved to Saudi Arabia and then to Bahrain.[6]

The family relocated to Bahrain where she was attending the U.S. Department of Defense School, the Bahrain School, when September 11, 2001 attacks happened, prompting her family to return to the United States.[7]

Bishil, her brother and mother returned to Southern California when she was fourteen,[8] where she completed an independent study program for high school. But returning to the United States was not easy at first. "I initially had some tough times trying to assimilate. It really makes you think about who you are and where you’re at.”[9]

In love with the idea of becoming an actress since the age of five, Bishil was 14 before she took her first acting class. Nine months later, a manager and agency signed her to a contract. Her first role was on a short-lived Nickelodeon show, Just for Kicks followed by several appearances in kids shows before her break-through performance in Towelhead. Slate critic Dana Stevens said that "Her performance is the truest thing in a movie that, for all its good intentions, feels thoroughly phony and mildly embarrassing, like an extended PSA about inappropriate touching."[10]Bob Strauss who writes for several Los Angeles newspapers states that Bishil, " is one of the finest natural film actresses to emerge in years." Gary Goldstein of the Los Angeles Times in a Sept 12 review of the movie Towelhead, states that, "newcomer Summer Bishil turns in a gutsy, quietly riveting performance as Jasira."

Martin Bashir (born January 19, 1963 in London) is an English journalist of Pakistani descent, well known for his many interviews that have generated international controversy.

Early life

Bashir was born in South London and grew up in Wandsworth. He was educated at King Alfred's College of Higher Education, Winchester (since 2004 the University of Winchester), studying English & History from 1982-1985, and at King's College London. He still keeps a house in Winchester.

He started work as a journalist in 1986. He worked for the BBC until 1999 on programmes including Songs of Praise, Public Eye and Panorama and then he joined ITV, working on special documentary programmes and features for Tonight with Trevor McDonald. Bashir came to wide prominence in 1995 when he interviewed (for the BBC's Panorama programme) Diana, Princess of Wales about her failed marriage to the Prince of Wales. Since then he has conducted interviews with, amongst others, Louise Woodward, the five suspects in the Stephen Lawrence case, Michael Barrymore, Jeffrey Archer, Major Charles Ingram, and Joanne Lees.

Regarding his 2003 dialogue with Michael Jackson, titled Living with Michael Jackson critics contend the documentary was yellow journalism, claiming Bashir edited the tapes in a sensational manner that only presented Jackson in an unflattering light. After seeing the edited version of the interview, Jackson released a rebuttal interview, filmed by his personal cameraman. Jackson showed footage of Bashir praising him as a father, and agreeing that the life as Michael Jackson is difficult. Living with Michael Jackson was watched by 14 million viewers in the UK. When it was aired in the U.S., the furore over insinuations of paedophilia began a series of events that led to Michael Jackson being tried for molesting a boy who appeared in the film. Jackson was later acquitted.

Currently, Bashir serves as a correspondent for ABC's 20/20. Bashir also became one of the three full-time anchors of Nightline following Ted Koppel's last broadcast in November 2005.

Bashir has also appeared in the film Mike Bassett: England Manager, where he played himself.

In May 2003, he was voted the 5th worst Briton in Channel 4's poll of the 100 Worst Britons, just behind Margaret Thatcher and Jade Goody.

In July 2008 Bashir provoked a storm of protest when serving as a presenter at a dinner held for the Asian American Journalists' Association. Bashir was eventually forced to apologise for referring to his female colleagues as "Asian babes", stating he was "glad the podium covers me from the waist down" and making suggestive comments about his co-presenter's dress. He has been quoted as saying he is a committed Christian in an interview.[4].

Bashir confirmed on June 8, 2008 that doctors found a tumor on his pituitary gland.[5] It was found after he suffered a head injury. He intends to continue with his career.

Kanak "Konnie" Huq (Bengali: কনি হক, pronounced Huck; born 17 July 1975) is a British television presenter, who is best known for being the longest-serving female presenter of Blue Peter, having presented it from 1 December 1997 until 23 January 2008. She is of Bangladeshi descent, and describes herself as being a "relaxed Muslim".[1]

Career

In 1989, at the age of 14, Huq was a guest on Blue Peter with the National Youth Music Theatre, where she sang a solo. In 1992, ahead of the forthcoming general election, Huq interviewed Labour leader Neil Kinnock for the children's programme Newsround. She can also be seen as an extra as a schoolgirl in the BBC1 sitcom 2point4 Children in the Series 2 episode "I'm Going Slightly Mad" .

In 1997, several months before joining Blue Peter, Huq presented Five's early morning children's programme Milkshake!

Huq is best known for presenting the BBC children's television programme Blue Peter, which she joined on 1 December 1997. (At that time Huq was regarded as being its 25th presenter, but the acknowledgement in 1998 of Anita West as a former presenter means that Huq is in fact the 26th.)

One of her most memorable early moments on Blue Peter was going to Bangladesh, and visiting members of her extended family whom she had not seen in a long time. In the programme's 2004 "Summer Expedition" to India, Huq became an extra in a Bollywood film, and practised dancing alongside its stars. For the programme's 2004 "Welcome Home" appeal, she made an emotional visit to Angola in the hope of reuniting children with the families they had been separated from due to war. In 2008, during her last ever programme, she broke a Guinness World Record by managing to pin 17 Blue Peter Badges onto fellow presenter Andy Akinwolere's shirt in a minute.

She presented with Stuart Miles, Katy Hill, Romana D'Annunzio, Richard Bacon, Simon Thomas, Matt Baker, Liz Barker, Zöe Salmon, Gethin Jones and Andy Akinwolere.

In March 2007 she apologised to viewers after a competition on the programme was faked, saying "We'd like to say sorry to you because when this mistake happened, we let you down."[2] She was later reported as saying that this event contributed to her decision to leave the programme.[3][4]

On 31 May 2007, Huq announced that she would be leaving Blue Peter in early 2008.[2] Her last live programme was broadcast on 22 January 2008, making her the third longest-serving Blue Peter presenter of all time and its longest-serving female host, having passed Valerie Singleton's record on 1 October 2007.[5]

On 23 January 2008, Huq hosted her final Blue Peter, with a clip show of her highlights through the ten years she had been on the programme.

Between 2002 and 2004, Huq co-presented the CBBC Channel's UK Top 40. More recently, she made her debut as a news presenter on the BBC Asian Network, in a series of documentaries on a new radio current affairs programme called the Asian Network Report.

In early 2004 Huq was briefly a presenter for Top of the Pops. She appeared on the CBBC series M.I.High as herself in the episode "The Big Freeze" broadcast on 22 January 2007. She presented GMTV's coverage on New York Fashion Week on the week of 10 September 2007. She has also been a guest panelist on the comedy gameshow 8 out of 10 Cats.

December 2007 saw Konnie appear on a celebrity version of Ready Steady Cook alongside Blue Peter co-presenter Andy Akinwolere, as well as playing a servant (called Konnie) on the last episode of the second series of Robin Hood. Also in 2007, Konnie began presenting the ITV1 London show London Talking, a political debate show, alongside Vanessa Feltz and Nick Ferrari.

She has also co-presented some of the weekly Your News programme for BBC News in 2008.

On Monday 14th April 2008 Konnie was seen filming at Colchester Zoo for the 3rd series of Five show Zoo Days which was broadcast starting June 2008.

She also appeared in an episode of Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe in December 2008, where she hosted a mock version of a "mission documentary".

In 2005, she took part in BBC One's reality TV show Comic Relief Does Fame Academy, in aid of Comic Relief, and was the third contestant to be voted off, after her rendition of Kim Wilde's Kids in America. She also travelled to Uganda and met orphan children, on behalf of Comic Relief, and is currently a celebrity ambassador for the British Red Cross[6].

On 15 September 2006 Huq became one of the presenters of The Tube alongside Tony Wilson, Alex James and Emily Rose Channel 4 Radio[7] working with production company UKoneFM. The first show was broadcast on 3 November 2006.[8]

On 6 April 2008, Huq was one of 80 carriers of the Olympic torch relay through London when on Ladbroke Grove a protester tried to grab the torch from her whilst Huq was about to give the torch to the next runner. On BBC News later that day she defended carrying the torch, saying she "did the procession because I believe in the Olympic values, the ideals, I think sport on a global scale is a brilliant thing, it transcends culture, race, money," despite what she calls China's "terrible track record when it comes to human rights."[9] Huq was not hurt in the incident. Police wrestled the protester to the ground and arrested him.[10] She however voiced concern over the Chinese torch guards, saying "They were very robotic, very full on, and actually I noticed them having skirmishes with our own police and the Olympic authorities before our leg of the relay"[11].

Konnie Huq's parents moved to England from Bangladesh in the 1960s and she was born in Hammersmith,[12] but grew up in Ealing, London, with her two sisters, Rupa and Nutun.

She was educated at the independent Notting Hill & Ealing High School in London, and Robinson College, Cambridge, where she obtained a 2:1 in Economics.

Waheed Alli, Baron Alli (born November 16, 1964) is a British multimillionaire media entrepreneur and politician. He was co-founder and managing director of Planet 24, a TV production company, and managing director at Carlton Television Productions. He is a Labour peer and, is one of very few out gay Muslim politicians in the world.

Biography

In British political terms he is considered Asian, though both of his parents are from the Caribbean; see Indo-Caribbean. His mother, a nurse, is from Trinidad, and his estranged father, a mechanic, is from Guyana. He has been claimed by both constituencies, see profiles below. He was named one of the 20 most important Asians in British media in 2005. [1] At the same time, he maintains ties with his Caribbean roots, both with other British-Guyanese politicians such as Valerie Amos and Trevor Phillips, and with President Bharrat Jagdeo [2].

Alli grew up in humble surroundings, attended Stanley Technical College in South Norwood, London, and left school at 16 with nine O-levels[3].

He started work as a junior researcher for a finance magazine and worked his way up in the media business within Robert Maxwell’s stable of publications. He then went to the City for a second career in investment banking, through which he became wealthy [4]. In the mid-1980s he met Charlie Parsons, who was to become his business and life partner.

Alli’s third career, and the first in which he achieved public prominence, was in the television industry. He and Parsons set up 24 Hour Productions, which produced The Word, “the most talked about television programme in Britain” [5]. In 1992 they merged with Bob Geldof’s Planet Pictures to form Planet 24. Such was its success that it became one of the largest TV production companies in the country, and the main independent supplier to Channel 4 [6]. It was responsible for genre-breaking programmes such as Big Breakfast and Survivor. Carlton Television bought Planet 24 in March 1999 for £15 million, with Alli and Parsons prudently retaining the rights to the lucrative Survivor format. Waheed Alli became a Carlton board director before stepping down a year later. [7]

In 2003 Alli took over as chairman of the media rights company Chorion, which owns rights to Enid Blyton and Agatha Christie, and has offices beyond the UK in New York, Sydney, and Tokyo. [8] He is chairman of AIM-listed Asos and a director of Olga Television, entertainer Paul O'Grady's production company. He owns part of Shine Limited, a media production company he co-founded in March 2001 with Elisabeth Murdoch, daughter of media-magnate Rupert Murdoch.

Waheed Alli was made a life peer as Baron Alli, of Norbury in the London Borough of Croydon, in 1998 at the age of 34, becoming the youngest and the first openly gay peer in Parliament. Prime Minister Tony Blair had for years used Alli as a means to help him reach out to a younger generation (aka “yoof culture”)[10], and as such he is considered one of "Tony’s cronies" [11]. The BBC summarised his appointment as “the antithesis of the stereotypical ‘establishment’ peer - young, Asian and from the world of media and entertainment”[12]. He sits on the Labour benches in the House of Lords.

Alli has used his political position to argue for gay rights. He advocated lowering the age of consent for homosexuals from 18 to 16, equal to heterosexuals. It was during a heated exchange with conservative opponents, led by Baroness Young, that he informed his fellow peers that he was gay. In April 1999, he said in a speech, "I have never been confused about my sexuality. I have been confused about the way I am treated as a result of it. The only confusion lies in the prejudice shown, some of it tonight [i.e. in the House], and much of it enshrined in the law." [13] Lord Alli also spearheaded the campaign to repeal Section 28 [14]. He is one of very few openly gay Muslim figures in public life anywhere in the world, along with Pav Akhtar, also a Labour politician based in London.

He influenced the draft Communications Bill in 2003 [15].

He labelled the awarding of a knighthood to Salman Rushdie as a "controversial decision" that might harm community relations.

Michael James Nazir-Ali (born 19 August 1949) is the Pakistani-born 106th and current Bishop of Rochester in the Church of England. He holds dual Pakistani and British citizenship.

Background

Michael Nazir-Ali was born in Karachi, Pakistan to Christian parents, James and Patience Nazir-Ali[1]. His father converted from Islam.[2] He attended the Roman Catholic-run St Patrick's school in Karachi and began attending Roman Catholic services and identifying as Christian at the age of 15; he was formally received into the Church of Pakistan aged 20.[3]

Bishop Nazir-Ali attended Saint Patrick's High School, Karachi, read economics, Islamic history, and sociology at the University of Karachi (BA 1970) and studied in preparation for ordination at Ridley Hall, Cambridge (1970). He undertook further postgraduate studies in theology at St Edmund Hall, Oxford (BLitt 1974, MLitt 1981), Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge (MLitt 1976), and the Australian College of Theology (ThD 1983). He has also studied at the Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard Divinity School and in 2005 he was awarded the Lambeth DD. He has a number of other doctorates. His particular academic interests include comparative literature and comparative philosophy of religion. In addition to teaching appointments in colleges and universities in many parts of the world, he has been a tutor in the University of Cambridge, Senior Tutor of Karachi Theological College, and Visiting Professor of Theology and Religious Studies in the University of Greenwich. He has been elected an Honorary Fellow of his colleges at Oxford (St Edmund Hall) and Cambridge (Fitzwilliam). From 1986 until 1989, while he was Assistant to the Archbishop of Canterbury and Co-ordinator of Studies and Education for the Lambeth Conference, he was Honorary Curate of Oxford St Giles and St Philip and St James with St Margaret.

He was ordained an Anglican priest in 1976 and worked in Karachi and Lahore, and became the first Bishop of Raiwind in West Punjab (1984-86) — at the time, the youngest bishop in the Anglican Communion. When his life was endangered in Pakistan in 1986[4], Robert Runcie, the Archbishop of Canterbury, arranged for his refuge in England. Nazir-Ali says, "...the reason behind some of the difficulties I was facing was removed when General Zia was killed - unfortunately for him, and I am now not doing the work that I was doing at the time with the very poor." [5] . He became an assistant to the Archbishop at Lambeth and assisted with the planning of the 1988 Lambeth Conference; he was General Secretary of the Church Mission Society 1989-1994 and concurrently Assistant Bishop of Southwark. He was appointed Bishop of Rochester, England in 1994, and in 1999 entered the House of Lords as one of the "Lords Spiritual" because of his seniority in episcopal office, the first religious leader from Asia to serve there. He will cease to be a member of the House of Lords upon retirement. He was one of the final two candidates for Archbishop of Canterbury, though the more progressive Anglo Catholic Rowan Williams was appointed.

Between 1997 and 2003. he was chairman of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority's ethics and law committee. He is a leader of the Network for Inter-faith Concerns of the Anglican Communion.[6]

Bishop Nazir-Ali is generally on the evangelical wing of the Anglican Church, describing himself as "evangelical and catholic." He appointed the first woman archdeacon in the Church of England,[7] and opposes the ordination of non-celibate gay and lesbian clergy and the blessing of same-sex unions. Bishop Nazir-Ali has become a prominent spokesman for an engagement between Christianity and Islam. He is frequently quoted in the press. He has advocated more effective integration of ethnic communities within the UK and has been critical of the Canadian-style concept of multiculturalism, urging that Britons take greater pride in their authentic cultural inheritance and that immigrants take greater pains to integrate into the general community.

In 2000, Nazir-Ali wrote,

Just as a marriage is not complete without mutual support, companionship and love, so there is a real lack if the intention is never to have children, regardless of circumstances. This signals that marriage is not a matter of self-indulgence. In our age, such teaching is crucial."[1]

Because of this statement, it is claimed that Nazir-Ali believed that married couples had a duty to have children, and those who remained childless were "self-indulgent"[8] Although he views having children a basic part of a good marriage, he has denied ever labeling couples who did not have children "self-indulgent".[7], claiming it was "pure invention."[1]

He was one of the bishops who signed a letter against Rowan Williams' appointment of the Reverend Dr Jeffrey John as Bishop of Reading in 2003. The others were the Bishops of Bradford, Carlisle, Chester, Chichester, Exeter, Liverpool, Southwell and Winchester.

In November 2006 Nazir-Ali criticised the "dual psychology" of some Muslims who seek both "victimhood and domination". He said it would never be possible to satisfy all of the demands made by Muslims because "their complaint often boils down to the position that it is always right to intervene when Muslims are victims... and always wrong when Muslims are the oppressors or terrorists". In reference to conflict in Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan, he said "Given the world view that has given rise to such grievances, there can never be sufficient appeasement and new demands will continue to be made." In response, the Muslim Council of Britain said "We would normally expect a bishop to display more humility and work towards bringing communities closer together rather than contributing towards fostering greater divisions."[2]

In October 2007, he told the Daily Telegraph that he would not attend the 2008 Lambeth Conference because he would find it "very difficult" to be in Council following the actions of the Episcopal Church in the United States.[9] that is tearing the fabric of the Anglican Communion.

In January 2008 Nazir-Ali wrote that Islamic extremism had turned "already separate communities into 'no-go' areas" and claimed that there had been attempts to "impose an 'Islamic' character on certain areas", citing the amplification of the call to prayer from mosques as an example[10]. He criticised the government's integration policy as "an agenda which still lacks the underpinning of a moral and spiritual vision", and asked that the government make a public affirmation of the "Christian roots of British society". These comments resulted in some debate and criticism, including a response from the Muslim Council of Britain, who said the mosque call was no different from church bells ringing, and Nick Clegg, leader of the Liberal Democrats, who described the claims as "a gross caricature of reality". Conservative home affairs spokesman David Davis said the bishop had rightly drawn attention to a "deeply serious problem" and that Labour's support for multiculturalism risked creating a situation of "voluntary apartheid".[11] The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Hazel Blears responded to Nazir-Ali's comments by stating that Britain was a "secular democracy", and challenged him to name specific 'no go' areas.[12] but the Chair of the Equality Commission, Trevor Phillips, agreed with his analysis of the situation. Nazir-Ali has since received death threats against himself and his family, and he is now under escort by the Kent police; however, he says his "overflowing postbag" has been "overwhelmingly supportive". In the June 2008 issue of Standpoint magazine,[15] He called for the Church to regain a prominent position in public life and blamed the "newfangled and insecurely founded doctrine of multiculturalism" for entrenching the segregation of communities. Nazir Ali claimed that the decline of Christianity and the rise of liberal values in the UK during the 1960s had created a moral vacuum with radical Islam filling the gap. "We have argued that it is necessary to understand where we have come from, to guide us to where we are going, and to bring us back when we wander too far from the path of national destiny", the bishop wrote.

Bishop Nazir-Ali met his wife, Valerie Cree, who is English, in Cambridge, and they were married in 1972. They have two sons, Shammy (Shamoun) and Ross,[16] both now adults.

His pastimes include hockey, cricket, table tennis, and Scrabble, as well as writing poetry in English and Persian and listening to music.
